    The Main Score

    • It is the number near to the name (99).
    • It should show what % of other players were worse than this specific player (Elias Pettersson) at his position (forwards / defensemen) in the selected season. However, it is extremely important to consider the player’s role as well. If player X has 95th percentile & plays on 3rd line, meanwhile player Y has 70th percentile & plays on 1st line, it doesn’t automatically mean that player X is better. The context is very important.
    • Also be aware before of The Main Score. We’ve been always saying that no model can show how the specific player was/is good or bad by one number/value.
    • The best way to analyze a player is to look at ‘Offense’ & ‘Transition’ & ‘Defense’ apart.
    • ‘Transition’ is NOT includes in ‘Main Score’. As we have no transition data until 2019 – 2020 season, we decided to not include them there. This means we can use the same formula for every season since the 2007 – 2008 season.
    • ‘Main Score’ includes all ‘Offense’ & ‘Defense’ data & also Penalties Drawn & Taken. ‘Offense’ has the highest value, as we still think that scoring is the most important & hardest thing in hockey. ‘Defense’ data has a bit lower value & both Penalties even lower. However, ‘Defense’ for defensemen has higher value than for forwards, but ‘Offense’ still has the highest value even for defensemen.
